Glass balls mouth blown granules technique

Famous craft: these pre-lamp mouth-blown glass balls are created in elaborate manufactory work, as it is practiced in the Thuringian glass town of Lauscha for centuries.

Three working steps characterize the manufacturing process: First, crystal glass tubes are drawn into blanks before the flame. In the resulting hot, honey-soft glass mass is colored, ultra-fine ground glass - the glass granules - sprinkled, so that it can distribute in the glass mass. In the final step, when the glass ball is mouth-blown to its final shape in front of the lamp, the blank mass melts with the glass granules - thereby forming the characteristic color streaks and gradients.

Instead of letting in a tinny suspension eyelet, this is also pulled out of the glass - a fine detail that goes back to an idea of the Bauhaus designer Wilhelm Wagenfelds and completes the glass ball to a homogeneous work of glassblowing art.

This product is an example of genuine handicraft; therefore, minor deviations in size and colour may occur.
