Garden bag from rice bags

If a bag of rice falls over somewhere, it has no significant impact. But it deserves our attention when discarded rice bags are fully upcycled and thus natural resources are conserved. Because this is how this robust container is created, in which you can stow grass clippings, twigs, dry leaves or wild weeds in your garden as well as your tools or outdoor toys, protect them from moisture and transport them.

In the context of a Fair Trade certified project in Sri Lanka, the dedicated female employees transform thoroughly cleaned rice sacks into these large-format garden bags that can be used indoors and outdoors. Already by itself, the material is moisture repellent and very durable, in addition, a reinforced cross stitching increases the tear resistance of the bags - whose maximum load weight is a remarkable 50 kilograms.

So much weight you will usually not want to shoulder, and yet the straps are kept so long that you can comfortably carry the garden bag on your shoulder. Because with its patterns of clear writing bands and colors, the bag is very attractively designed - surprise effect included: Since the collected rice bags come from a wide variety of batches and are put together randomly, the color and pattern combinations also differ from bag to bag. Whichever combination you choose, the bag will reliably cut a fine figure even when shopping at the weekly market, on the beach or at a picnic. And if you do not need this all-rounder once, it can be folded space-saving to small size.
