Finnish storage basket Koppa

This basket is made of lightweight birch plywood and, despite its fragile appearance, is impressively sturdy and, as a result, very practical and suitable for everyday use. The basket is not only used to store various small items - office utensils, toys, wool and knitting needles etc. pp. -It can also be used as a transport container, for example when shopping at the weekly market. The material owes its strength to the crosswise processing of several layers of thin birch wood, which are glued together. Once shaped, this inseparable bond is very stable and resilient. The top layer of birch plywood remains untreated and will therefore show signs of use and develop a patina over time. Unless you want to wax, oil, glaze or varnish the surface.

With its simple design, the storage basket cannot deny its Scandinavian origins. And the wood also comes from the far north: from Finland - the land of 1,000 lakes and forests, where the family-run manufacturing company is also based.

What initially began as a mother-daughter venture in 1997 quickly grew into a renowned Finnish design label. Since then, Kirsikka Savonen and her two daughters Tuttu Sillanpää and Tuuli Burmann have been designing everyday objects for the home, kitchen and office in Helsinki. Functionality is paramount, as is the use of natural materials such as linen, cotton and virgin wool or wool felt and - of course - wood. After all, Finland is rich in forest areas and wood has always been an important raw material and livelihood for the people. In the 19th century, the wood processing industry experienced a massive boom, but the nature-loving Finns manage their forests so prudently that today 86% of the country is still forested. It goes without saying that the designers at Verso Design not only draw materials and inspiration from nature, but also produce in an ecologically clean manner. Unmistakable is the traditional Finnish design of the products, which fit uncomplicatedly into any environment thanks to modern revision.
