    General Information

Wood at its hardest: end grain

In this chopping block made from local oak, the working surface is formed from the surface cut across the grain of the wood. Wood experts speak of end grain, which is neatly glued together from blocks of this so-called end grain that were previously sawn from a squared timber. The result: a cutting board that shows the hardest side of wood.

Four rubber feet provide a non-slip grip on the worktop and reliably cushion the blows of meat beaters and chopping knives. Made in Hesse and only available in this version from Manufactum.

Made in a workshop for people with disabilities, this chopping board made of German oak (Spessart oak) clearly focuses on the material:

the strong, lively structure of the oak is emphasized and enhanced by the simple shape.

The elaborate production process makes the hardest part of the wood, the end grain, usable as a work surface.

Careful sorting before gluing creates symmetrical patterns. This "image" is different for every board, making it unique.

Wide recessed grips on the sides make it easier to lift, while four milled and screwed rubber feet reliably prevent slipping during work.

Due to its high tannic acid content, oak is naturally antibacterial and therefore does not provide a breeding ground for germs etc..

The surface is very finely sanded and treated with linseed oil to make it food-safe.

    Care instructions:

In order to maintain the beauty and utility value of your dulcimer for as long as possible, you should observe the following instructions:

Only clean the dulcimer after use with a damp cloth or rinse it briefly under running water. The board should then be allowed to dry upright.

    (not dishwasher safe!)

Always store your chopping board in a dry and airy place.

If juicy and/or wet food has been processed, this can cause the board to warp slightly for a short time. This "swelling" is a natural process in wood and does not represent a reduction in quality. After complete drying, the chopping board should have returned to its original state.

Never leave the board in water or in contact with water on one side for long periods of time.

Occasionally rub the surface with cooking oil, this will restore your dulcimer's vibrant color and better protect it from moisture penetration.

The tannic acid in oak wood can cause discoloration in the wood or on the food if it comes into prolonged contact with food or iron (e.g. knife blades made of carbon steel) - this is completely harmless in terms of food hygiene.
