Duffle coats. Originals from England.
The weaving mill Mallalieu’s in Delph, near Manchester, is known for its exceptional carded yarn fabrics and tweeds. The wool twill known as "Elysian" is ideally suited for one of the typical English duffle coats: it is a heavy carded yarn fabric that gains its special character from additional weft threads firmly anchored in the fabric, which - cut open and shorn - form an insulating layer over the base fabric on which raindrops or snow crystals remain - without contact with the fabric thus shielded. The herringbone structure of the fabric also reduces surface tension, so that the fabric is snug and warm, yet at the same time resilient and dirt-repellent - a rare combination of actually incompatible properties.
