Cleaning brush portafilter

A utensil as inconspicuous as important in the preparation of espresso and coffee with portafilter machines is the cleaning brush. With the brush, the sieve in the portafilter can be cleaned before the next filling, without it losing its temperature. This is because rinsing it under water would cause the metal, usually very conductive chrome-plated brass, to cool too much and the coffee could not be brewed at the ideal temperature. Cleaning between brews, on the other hand, is important to remove pomace residue so that the pores in the strainer do not become clogged. However, these intermediate cleanings do not replace the daily thorough cleaning of the portafilter including the sieve.
We have our cleaning brush manufactured by the Swedish brush maker Iris Hantverk from environmentally friendly, natural materials. The handle made of oiled birch wood is comfortable to hold, and the horsehair bristles make it easy to brush all the pores in the strainer free. So nothing stands in the way of the next coffee pleasure.

In the workshop of Iris Hantverk also work people with visual impairment. Brush making is traditionally a branch of work in which people with visual impairment and even blind people can be trained. So also Iris Hantverk originated at the beginning of the 20th century as a company founded by the Swedish Association of the Blind and lives on in this tradition to this day: artisans with visual impairment in Sweden and Estonia still equip the brushes entirely by hand.
