    General Information

    Lighthouse of the Christmas season

In the wintry darkness of the Christmas season, Christmas pyramids look like a cozy island of light radiating warmth, attracting the viewer's gaze like the flickering flames of a fireplace. The artisans of the Erzgebirge Mountains, who combined the medieval rotating tree, the light rack of the 18th century and allegedly the model of the horse horse to the pyramid art, have played a significant role in their development. Over time, this resulted in the construction of a multi-story pyramid, which elevates the small island of light to a lighthouse and is also taken up in this model. In a clear formal language, the craftsmanship testifies to the experience and artistry of the Seiffen workshop from which this pyramid originates: Here, supported by modern technology, the traditional folk art of the Erzgebirge is cultivated.

On its individual floors, the Christmas pyramid tells the story of the birth of Jesus: on the first floor, the Magi pay homage to the child in the manger, sheltered by Mary and Joseph; on the second floor, the shepherds and their sheep circle; on the top floor, angels announce the birth of the Son of God. Very detailed in this pyramid solid beech, birch and spruce wood with its natural colors and grains are combined into a harmonious whole. The rising heat of the lit candles immediately drives the impeller and makes kings, shepherds and angels glide around the central axis. Each figurine is crafted with great care, predominantly hand-turned, hand-smoothed and partially hand-painted. With standard tree candles you can set this Christmas pyramid in motion - a moving light figure of your Christmas decorations.

Folk art from the Erzgebirge. Seiffen

The fact that a famous wood art developed in the originally densely forested Erzgebirge is not only explained by the availability of the material. As a branch of industry, handicrafts became all the more important as the local mining industry rapidly lost resources and profitability. Folk art slipped into this gap, which mining - no less than Christmas - still shaped with numerous motifs. A center of wood art emerged around Seiffen, where one of the first specialized trade schools was founded in 1853 to promote handicrafts. In the so-called Toy Corner, small and large craft businesses still produce the classics of the folk art of the Erzgebirge: from hoop animals and smoking men to miner figures and nutcrackers to candle arches and wing pyramids.
