Chest bench oak wood

Unjustly, the settle has become a rare sight. Offering ample storage room and a space to sit on, this type of furniture is distinctively useful in the hallway and wardrobe as well as in the bedroom and dressing room. This one brings pictures of Shaker furniture to mind: made of solid oak wood in all its parts and featuring a clear-cut design. You open up the chest by pulling a loop of vegetable-tanned, undyed leather; then you slip the lid (folded in half) into a slot at the back. You find two separated storage spaces inside the chest. Openings at the connection between the base and legs and the recess milled into the back for holding the lid in place when folded aside provide ventilation – particularly useful when the chest keeps shoes or textiles.

Form & Refine is a Danish design label founded in 2018 by Helle Herman Mortensen, Jonas Herman Pedersen and Lasse Lund Lauridsen. It exemplarily follows the Scandinavian design tradition and continues it at the same time. A central point is the harmonious combination of aesthetics, function and material. The designs are clear and restrained, function leads to form and the pure materials, which are allowed to retain their original visual details and forms, are processed with perfect craftsmanship. This is always done in the countries of origin of the materials, which shortens transport distances and at the same time supports the local craft culture.
