    General Information

Warmer, softer, lighter. Blankets made from the finest cashmere

It is not for nothing that cashmere is considered the most precious hair of all. As a natural fiber, it is very fine, extremely soft, warming and surprisingly light. We use the best unbleached and undyed cashmere for our blankets. The raw material selected for this comes from China and Mongolia, with the darker shades coming from Iran and Afghanistan. The fiber length is approximately 32 to 34 millimeters with a fiber fineness of 16.5 micrometers. The proportion of awns is only around 0.2 to 0.3 percent.

The cashmere yarn is spun in Biella, Italy. The German Weberei Hohenberger uses it to weave these blankets in classic herringbone twill. White cashmere is always used in the warp and cashmere in shades of brown or gray in the weft. The fringes are therefore white on all three blankets. In the brown blankets, the cashmere fibers are woven completely unbleached and undyed; the shades of grey are created by mixing them with black-dyed fibers in the flock. The blankets made from this precious natural hair are processed exclusively mechanically, not chemically: after washing and fulling, they are dried and then lightly roughened on natural thistles. Due to their exceptional fineness, our cashmere blankets require gentle handling: please do not rub, tug or wring them out. They should always be spread out to dry when wet.

Cashmere - an introduction to the fabric. The quality lies in the detail

A material in itself is not a sign of quality - descriptions such as "genuine" leather, "pure" silk "made from pure cashmere" may well conceal inferior raw materials mixed with a variety of chemical additives. The resulting products are then of dubious value. It is therefore important for us to look closely at where the raw material comes from and what quality it has. There are four criteria for this.Origin Kashmir takes its name from the geographical region of the same name on the border between India, Pakistan and China. Today, the producing countries include China and Mongolia, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey and, more recently, New Zealand and Australia. And production Only goats provide the valuable raw material, the cashmere fiber. The animals protect themselves against the extreme cold and humidity with a fleece made of long, coarse top hair - the "Grannenhaar" - and the smooth, much softer and warming down hair underneath, which is called comforter. Only the down hair is really valuable and very precious, and the finer it is, the tougher the environmental conditions are for the cashmere goats - cashmere fibers that come from temperate climates are often of poorer quality. The coveted fine downy hair is not shorn, but carefully combed out by hand in an elaborate process. Each year, an animal only produces around 100 to 200 g of down hair, which is thoroughly cleaned after combing and sorted by color - in various natural shades from dark brown to grey and beige to almost pure white.
