    General Information

    An educated monkey.

A device for "Arithmetical Multiplication and Division" was patented in 1889 in Munich, and rapidly became the model for a whole row of mechanical calculators. The most popular of these was "Consul", the calculating monkey, who saw the light of day in the USA in 1916 and continued to be produced there up to the 1970s as an educational toy.

    Please note:

Warning! Collector’s model not suitable for children under 14 years of age.

Rich in detail and carefully crafted. Tin toys from Europe

We do not want to tire of emphasizing how vanishingly small and soon probably completely disappeared the share of mechanical tin toys from European production is. Since the relocation of almost all tin toy production to the Far East, the remaining manufacturers in this country (as in the rest of Europe) are often left to fend for themselves. Some classics that were produced for decades, such as the Kalkulationsaffe Consul, have virtually disappeared - we have only found one manufacturer that produces it in India: The Düsseldorf-based sheet metal factory now maintains production facilities not only near Nuremberg, but also in New Delhi and Shanghai. And yet die Blechfabrik manufactures historical tin toys true to its motto of "preserving the historical gem". In order to fulfill this intention, the models are mainly handmade, if possible with the help of historical models and original stamping tools.

    Hint:

Collector’s edition. Not suitable for children younger than 14 years of age.

    Product Information

    Article Number 78012

The numbers required are pointed at by arrows attached to the feet of the unfortunate primate (who has moveable shoulders and elbows), and the multiplication product can then be read at the bottom of the board that he holds between his hands. For division, the board is put on the number to be divided, while the animal’s left foot goes on to the divisor, and his right foot then points at the answer. We offer a reproduction of the 1916 "Consul", of sheet steel with printed detail and prop-up sidepiece. 16.5 x 15 x 1.7 cm. Weight 190 g. Suitable for children aged 14 or over.
