    General Information

    Exclusive

The Kaban is a maritime classic whose original home is Brittany. Armor lux, based in Quimper, manufactures it still in France and exclusively for Manufactum entirely from natural materials: under the outer fabric, a densely woven wool cloth, lies a cotton fleece, which is quilted with the viscose lining in a diamond shape.

    The Caban.

The Caban is an old Breton garment. The local fishermen used to wear a Caban on the job for centuries. Initially, the work jacket came in white (‚kap gwenn‘ means in Breton ‚white cloth‘); however, blue became the predominant colour in the early 19th century. In this colour, fleets and merchant ships of various European countries introduced the jacket as part of the standard garments for their crews. So it became the ‚ultimate‘ piece of sailors‘ clothing. For our Caban by Armor Lux applies: Weaving and finish take place in Quimper. It‘s a genuine article!

    Material and Cut.

Armor Lux uses a heavy, densely woven cloth weighing 800 g/r.m for their Caban. The straight-cut jacket has a collar with lapels and a button-up neck-flap; it features a double row of three matt-finished aluminium buttons down the front. It comes with two side pockets and two inside pockets with metal zips.

Armor lux. Maritime Style from Brittany.

"Armor" is the Breton word for sea, and "lux" can only mean the light on the coast. A maritime style, in any case, is what characterises many of the garments produced by Armor lux. The company, set up by a Swiss man in the Breton town of Quimper at the end of the 1930s, manufactures sweaters, shirts, dresses, trousers, hats, caps and scarves. In the 1960s, Armor lux established its own dyeing workshop so that all manufacturing processes were gathered under one roof, from fabric production to quality controls. In the 1970s, they introduced their first major collection. Since then, the label stands for simple, comfortable cuts, classic colours and an uncompromising approach regarding quality in terms of material and workmanship. For the most part, the production takes place at the headquarters in France and to a small extent in factories in Madagascar and Tunisia.
