Or as the plant experts call it: in the hermetosphere. That is, a space, in this case the inside of a glass bottle, that is tightly sealed to the outside, and in this case with a cork stopper. A green forest garden thrives in it, for example, if you choose ferns and mosses for the planting. A completely different atmosphere will be created if you plant the glass with mini succulents: Then the bottle garden turns into a Mediterranean landscape, around the plants perhaps even decorated with a handful of shells from the last Mediterranean vacation. Whichever option you choose, just remember to choose the appropriate location: It is the demands of the plant that determine whether the bottle garden is better placed on the windowsill or in the center of the room on the table. Forest dwellers tend to like cool, shady places. Succulents, on the other hand, need light and warmth for their well-being. Watering once immediately after planting is usually sufficient, unless the glass has received a little too much sun (in which case it may be necessary to top up). Basically, however - and that is the beauty of it - the plants in the closed system permanently take care of themselves. A note on the procedure: In addition to coarse and fine sand as well as grit, your bottled garden also comes with a bag of activated carbon, which is added to the glass right when planting to keep the water and soil clean for a longer period of time. On this activated carbon you put your potted out plants and then fill up with sand or gravel.
