Blanket yak hair lambswool

Yak hair is one of the softest and finest natural hairs, it is light yet very durable - ideal for making very light yet extremely warm blankets. Yaks are the only cattle species with a multi-layered and particularly dense coat. The long top coat, the coarser woolly coat and finally the very fine, heavily curled undercoat protect the cattle, which are native to the high plateaus of Central Asia, from the harsh climate with its biting cold and icy winds. During the natural change to the somewhat lighter summer coat, the yaks lose their thick winter coat. It is usually combed out by the shepherds, but occasionally the animals are also shorn. Only around 300 to 500 grams of the fine, downy undercoat can be obtained per yak each year - and only this fine undercoat can be spun, which explains the high cost of yak yarn.

So that we can still enjoy the extremely warming, fine yak hair, it is combined with Mongolian lambswool. Mongolian lambswool has similar properties to yak hair in terms of fineness and warmth, but it is easier to obtain and therefore cheaper and available in larger quantities. Our blanket consists of half yak and half lambswool. It is woven like a double face, so that one side shows the dark brown, natural yak hair and the other side the lighter, also undyed and unbleached lambswool. After weaving, both surfaces are mechanically roughened and the edges are finished with a dark brown cotton yarn. The blanket is made in Germany.
