Binu facial soap with bamboo activated charcoal

Binu is the word for soap in Korean; it is also the name of a German-Korean company that manufactures ultra-mild facial cleansing bars. Using only plant-based ingredients such as coconut oil, olive oil and sunflower oil, this face soap gives a mild but thorough cleansing. The porous surface of its other ingredient, bamboo-based activated charcoal, binds with dirt particles and sebum and removes them, making this soap ideal for oily, blemish-prone skin. Combined with ground bamboo leaves, the charcoal particles have a slight exfoliating effect and remove dead skin cells. These effects ensure that pores do not clog so easily and pimples are minimised.
The soap’s moisturising component is a combination of Hinoki water, shea butter and bamboo vinegar, obtained from distilling bamboo sap. Due to the acetic acid content (6–9%) of the diluted bamboo vinegar, the soap is slightly astringent. We recommend that you apply your usual face cream after cleansing.
Binu face soap is made by hand in Damyang County, South Korea, an area well known for its bamboo forest. The method used is an environmentally friendly cold process, after which the soap is left five weeks to age and dry. The product is completely biodegradable.
