Regular cleaning of the bicycle chain and sprockets is not one of the most popular tasks in bicycle care, but it extends the durability many times over. This is because dust and grains of sand between the chain links and sprockets lead to increased wear of the metal, making pedaling and shifting through the gears more difficult. Especially if you ride frequently, for example on a mountain bike, on unpaved roads, a lot of dirt will accumulate quickly. But even with road and racing bikes that primarily ride on asphalt, it's worth regularly reaching for the sprocket brush and a suitable chain cleaner. Chain and sprocket thank you cleaning, care and subsequent greasing with smooth running, clean shifting and above all significantly longer durability.
