Balancing game felt stones
General Information
In play the power, in balance the calm
A slight silver glance, the tip of the tongue flashing out at the corner of the mouth, the movement slowed to apparent motionlessness - do not worry, there is nothing wrong with your child. Playing with these felt stones, your offspring has simply entered the vast (exercise) field of meditative relaxation: completely focused, breathing evenly, moving in a coordinated manner, keeping a concentrated balance. You see: Stacking stones is an art not only in Zen meditations. And in the same breath, the fantastic world of free play opens up to the child, as he counts, assigns, compares, and integrates the felt stones into new play worlds. For example, when it still needs a mountain massif on the edge of the prairie. Or a wall for the deep Brunnen, where the mermaid lives. Or a guardrail for the self-created race track of the Kugelflitzer.
Artfully imitating the pebbles of a beach, these large, easy-to-grasp balancing stones are felted by hand from pure New Zealand virgin wool and give your child a pleasant haptic experience. At the same time, they promote the cognitive development of your offspring: like Isaac Newton once did, your child will playfully discover the laws of gravity and how the threat of falling can be countered by balance - calmly, with concentration and trying it out again and again. And if you would like to give it a try as well: go ahead! For young and old, the felt stones offer a wonderful way to experience the power and calm inherent in play and balance.
A Fair Collaboration. Gry & Sif
During her backpacking tour through Nepal, the Dane Gry Staunstrup got to know the astonishing openness and warmth of the country’s inhabitants, and their craftsmanship bedazzled her. She was able to observe in detail how adeptly and skilfully Nepalese women felted wool into a wide variety of objects. Staunstrup felt it was time to make something good out of the untapped potential, and an idea was born: to combine Nepalese handicrafts with Danish design. And the idea was immediately followed by action.
The company Gry & Sif started producing a variety of products made of wool felt in Nepal in 2000. The designs created by Gry Staunstrup are as remarkable as they are understated and, characteristic of Danish design, at the same time fresh and merry. Nepalese women turn them into products employing traditional handicrafts. Fair Trade certified by now, Gry & Sif stands for fair wages and working conditions, environmentally conscious production and transparency. The company exclusively sources pure new wool from New Zealand sheep for the felting; each of the resulting products is handmade and unique.
