Manufactum’s ATOMA. A Notebook and Organizing System in Separate Parts and as a Kit.
The 60-year-old Belgian ATOMA notebook system consists entirely of runaway rings and flighty pages, whereby the rings prevent the pages from flying off and the pages prevent the rings from running away – at any rate, thanks to a patented special perforation you can easily combine them or separate them again. So you can add, rearrange or combine the various forms from your own notebooks any time you want to, – with forms, calendar or addressbook pages you can generate with your PC on the blank forms and then perforate them with the ATOMA hole puncher.
The Way It Works.
This is how you put together your notebook: – the rings (Ø 17 or 24 mm) – eleven for an A4- and eight for an A5 notebook; – a 0.8 mm thick texon cover we provide in A4 and A5 and extra wide for the A4 and A5 tabs; – specially perforated inserts (90 g/ m²) in A4 and A5; and – inscribable tabs with a 6-fold index extra wide for A4 and A5. Assembly is easy: first you insert the rings in the rear cover, then slip the inserts (we advise to take 8 sheets at once) on the rings, finally add the front cover. We also offer all blank varieties as ready-made notebooks.
The ATOMA Paper. Writing Paper at Its Best.
Today, almost all commercial stationery is optimized for smooth operation in offset or office printers at the expense of those who write by hand with fountain pens, ballpoints or pencils. Our paper favors the convenience of the hand writers: even quills glide cleanly over it, fountain pen and ballpoint ink give the writing clean contours without any leaking, and pencil leads create beautiful ornate lettering.
The Rulings.
In addition to the blank sheets of paper, we also offer lined and squared sheets – and sheets of paper with special rulings: Cornell notes and parallel projection.
Cornell Notes.
A classic from the academic community in the USA, developed by Walter Pauk at Cornell University in 1950 for taking structured notes when listening to academic discourse. Sheets with this ruling offer an outline column (for the agenda, key words, etc.) on the left, a broad content column on the right, and below space for a summary and to-do list. From experience: we find it very useful to structure any notes in this predefined way.
From Stick-Figure to Full Body Picture. 3-D Drawing Sheet.
After some practice, a stick-figure gains depth immediately when scribbled onto a sheet with parallel projection ruling. Drawing with the help of this ruling is great for passing the time during boring telephone conversations; moreover, it helps in any design process and puts a flash of inspiration to paper in a constructive way. It’s amazing how quickly even people usually lacking the talent for foreshortening can conquer the third dimension with this ruling.
