Advent calendar at the city wall

An atmospheric reprint, characteristic of the calendars produced by the small family business Richard Sellmer: the publishing house first published this motif in the early 1970s. In the style of classic children's book illustrations, the calendar depicts the pre-Christmas backdrop of a half-timbered town - a detailed hidden object picture with children peering curiously over the town wall. Even the glitter so popular in the 1970s reappears on this reprint, simulating the glitter of snow and ice here and there on awnings, ridges and ledges.

The city wall with its large city gate is placed at a small distance in front of the two-winged city backdrop, creating a panoramic image with a three-dimensional effect. At the center of the scene - and probably also the curiosity of the children playing on the town wall - is a horse-drawn sleigh full of presents on a festively decorated Christmas tree. As befits an Advent calendar, each day one of the 24 little doors reveals a lovingly designed motif from the sometimes contemplative, sometimes bustling pre-Christmas period. Every day of Advent holds a colorful little discovery in store, until the two-winged cathedral window finally opens on Christmas Eve.
